This year, IHME’s Festival programme is again open and free of charge to everyone. The number of participants for some of the events is, however, limited. View the Festival events to see for which ones advance booking is recommended, and make sure of your place at these unrepeatable occasions.
The Black Charismatic: World-premiere film screening and concert can be experienced only once
Festival artist Theaster Gates and his musician friends will soon arrive in Helsinki from Chicago. The Black Monks of Mississippi, the group that Gates has called together, borrows from Buddhist monks’ spiritual exercises and the power of black music to put listeners in tune with the secrets of communally created sound.
Go to the links below to sign up for the events to be staged as part of The Black Charismatic suite. Invite your friends along, too, and experience the power of the voice:
Join the Hannah Arendt reading group
The political theorist Hannah Arendt (1906–1975) is considered one of the most important thinkers of the 20th century. Postdoctoral researcher and Arendt expert Julian Honkasalo will lead a gathering of the reading circle on Saturday, April 8 at 13:00–14:00 at the Gloria Cultural Arena, to ask: What thoughts do Arendt’s thoughts on totalitarianism awake in readers today?
The reading circle requires no advance knowledge of Arendt. It will be held primarily in Finnish, in English if needed. Sign up for the reading circle starting Tuesday, February 21 at: firstname.lastname@example.org. There is room for 10 people.
